It’s almost Friday and that means it’s time for Almost Friday Sports Club. This week we have the best of the footballing world to share with you. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the best of the week in football!
First up on our list is Liverpool who kicked off their Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Swansea. Philippe Coutinho was on hand to score both goals – his first for Liverpool since moving from Barcelona last summer. Next up, Manchester United faced off against Everton in a match that ended in a 2-2 draw. Paul Pogba opened the scoring in the 31st minute but Romelu Lukaku scored United’s equaliser just before halftime. In Sunday’s games, Chelsea cruised to a 4-0 win over Huddersfield Town while Tottenham Hotspur came away from Brighton & Hove Albion with a 1-0 victory thanks to Harry Kane’s late goal. Finally, Arsenal faced off against Bournemouth in an entertaining match that ended 1-1 after 90 minutes. Aaron Ramsey scored for Arsenal early in the second half but Artur Boruc equalised shortly after.

Jerry Rice, one of the greatest players to ever grace an NFL field, announced his retirement from professional football on Monday. The 49-year-old Hall of Famer played 18 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before finishing his career with the Oakland Raiders. In total, he amassed 13,849 receiving yards and 98 touchdowns. “It’s time,” Rice told ESPN’s Josina Anderson during a press conference announcing his decision. “I just don’t see myself playing professionally anymore.”
